1. How can I get in touch with a planner to ask general questions?

2. How can I participate in City Public Hearings?

• Attend Public Hearing in person.
• Comment By Letter - with as much lead time as possible so that decision makers can receive a copy and have time to review it.
• Comment By Email - addressed to zoning.info@bedfordtx.gov

NOTE: Letters or E-mails arriving late on the day of the hearing may not get entered into record.

3. How do I find out about pending or active projects in my neighborhood?

See a “Public Notice – Land Use Application” sign posted?  Is construction occurring in your neighborhood?

4. What can I do with my property?

• Determine your property`s zoning, link: City of Bedford INTERACTIVE ZONING MAP
• Look for the specific section in the zoning ordinance for that zone.

• The zoning ordinance includes sections with the regulations for each zone, including

5. What do I need to know if I want to subdivide or short form plat my property?

Subdividing or short form platting property involves review by the City’s Development, Fire, Public Works, and Building Departments.

Most short form plats are reviewed administratively, whereas formal subdivisions (5 or more lots) require a public hearing. 

Prior to submittal of a formal application, an informal preliminary meeting with city staff (the Development Review Committee) is generally required. The purpose of this meeting is to identify potential issues and requirements for the proposal. Some topics of review include:  

• zoning requirements, such as minimum lot sizes and maximum density permitted; 
• potential critical areas; tree preservation;
• access, utility and stormwater requirements and improvements
