New service can be activated in one of two ways:
If you are moving and terminating your service, plese fill out the "Changes to Water Utility Service Account" form online and/or send an email to email@example.com at least 24 hours prior to the time you want service discontinued. Please provide your name, service address, the disconnect date, and a forwarding address and phone number for your final bill charges.
The City smart meters are read by cell phone towers and collect water usage data every 15 minutes. The reads are updated in the system every 24 hours. You can view your own usage by signing up for EyeOnWater, an online tool that allows residents to set leak alerts and monitor water usage. You will need to enter your account number and create a username and password. Please call 817-952-2112 for assistance.
No, the City takes the meter readings from EyeOnWater on a monthly basis.
If a meter cannot be read because it is inaccessible for reasons such as; a vehicle parked over the meter, meter covered with debris, or a broken meter, the meter will be manually read. If the City is unable to get a manual read, the account holder is billed only for the water base rate until the meter is uncovered, repaired, or replaced.

Yes, the City has a $2 convenience fee for each transaction using American Express, Discover, Visa and MasterCard, via IVR, online, and in-person. Recurring, bank draft, checks, and cash will not be charged the convenience fee.

Yes, all Bedford residents 65 years of age and older are eligible for a discount on their utility bill. Proof of age must be provided. The discount is applied to the water base rate, sewer base rate, and the recycling and storm drainage fee. It is approximately $4 a month.

The City does not offer a discount on the water bill. However, if the pool is filled anytime between December 1 and March 1, it can be taken into consideration (upon request when the sewer winter average is calculated for billing). If you fill a pool during this time period, please call or send written notification via mail, fax, or email to the Water Department. The notification should include the date the pool was filled and approximate number of gallons. Notification should be received by April 1.

To determine how much it will cost to fill a swimming pool, it is necessary to know how many gallons will be used to fill the pool and then multiply the gallons by the current water volume pass through rate.

This is a quick estimate of the cost and will vary depending upon the base rate and other monthly usage not included in the filling of the pool.
The City uses the winter months’ average of the December, January, and February consumption for the sewer calculations on residential and multi-family customers. We average the consumption during these months to set your sewer rate for the year, which changes each year on the May water bill. If you have no preceding winter months’ usage, we use the City’s average of 6,000 gallons.

To calculate a sewer average:
Add total consumption - 25,000 gallons, then divided by three months = 8,000 gallon average (changes May 1)
In the example, multiply the 8,000 gallon average times the current rate of $3.51 per 1,000 gallons, which equals $28.08. Then, add the current sewer base rate of $13.07 for a total sewer amount of $41.15 billed monthly. This amount will be in effect for an entire year beginning with your May bill.
To avoid penalties to your utility bill, the net amount is due in our office by 5 p.m. on or before the due date printed on your water bill. If your bill is on the first of the month, your bill is due on the 25th of the same month. If your bill is on the 15th of the month, your bill is due on the 9th of the following month.
If you receive a red and white termination notice, this represents termination of service for non-payment. Please do not disregard this notice without contacting our office at 817-952-2112. (After-hours is a $50 re-connection fee.)
Yes, the City has an after-hours re-connection procedure. Please call the Police Dispatch non-emergency number at 817-952-2127 up until 9 p.m. to have your water service restored, after normal business hours. The fee for this service is $50, in addition to the total amount past due.
No, the City does not provide trash containers. Trash must be containerized in plastic bags (any color but blue) or boxes weighing less than 50 pounds and set out at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection days. You may purchase your own trash container, but you must place your closed trash bags inside.
You may set your trash out no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before your regular trash days. All brush or limbs must be cut into 4-foot lengths and bundled, with each bundle weighing less than 50 pounds.
The City's trash collector, Republic Waste Services, provides 65 gallon green recycling roll carts. If you need a cart, please call Republic Services at 817-332-7301 or email Customer Service to make arrangements to receive one.
Yes, but if you have large items like a couch, mattress, or stove, please call Republic Services at 817-332-7301 so City staff can inform the driver.
To get rid of hazardous waste, please visit Customer Service (City Hall, Building C - 1805 L. Don Dodson Dr.) and staff will issue you a voucher to take your hazardous waste items to the reclamation center. Please bring your current water bill with you. Each Bedford household may obtain one hazardous waste voucher per year. This is a free service provided by the City.
No, but residents may take their brush, fencing, and building materials to the Arlington Landfill between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of each month (except December and January). Please bring your drivers license and current water bill to the scale attendant. The addresses much match in order to gain free access.
