While it may not look like much is happening on the outside, we have a lot happening behind the scenes at the future Rock Island Auction Company headquarters!
In case you missed the announcement, in November 2021 we announced Rock Island Auction Company, the world’s largest fine and historic firearms and militaria auction house, would be moving their headquarters to Bedford in the former Stericycle building at 3600 Harwood Road. In addition, they would also purchase the neighboring shopping center and invest in renovations for both areas.
Behind the scenes, Rock Island Auction Company has been working through significant damage and plumbing repairs inside the building, caused by the 2021 winter storm. We’re happy to report the company has now submitted the commercial remodel building permit for their new headquarters, which incorporates new offices, an auction hall, restrooms, and warehouse space. The architectural and plumbing plans for the interior remodel have been received by the City and a building code review is coming soon!
In addition, Rock Island recently finished a $500,000 roof replacement of the shopping center next door, and are currently in the planning stage to change to the outside façade and modernize the building. As we continue to make progress on renovations in this area, we’ll keep you updated on City communication channels.
