The Bedford Animal Shelter is currently closed to the public and is not accepting any owner surrenders for a minimum of 10 days. On October 13, Animal Services staff took a dog to the shelter, where he was diagnosed with Parvovirus. Parvo is extremely contagious and can be deadly to dogs. The Animal Shelter staff is going through its Parvo protocol, sanitizing the shelter and treating the lawn, when they are able to due to the wet conditions. All of the current adoptable dogs are being monitored and will be taken to the vet if they show any symptoms. If additional animals show symptoms, the shelter will remain in parvovirus protocol for additional days.
