Curious about how this year’s rainfall levels compare with previous years’ totals? According to the National Weather Service (https://www.weather.gov/fwd/dmoprecip), 2021 is the only the 8th wettest year through May, since 2000. Although June is off to a rainy start, 2021 has a long way to go to reach the top.

Here’s how the last 21 years have stacked up, looking at rainfall totals through May:

  2. 2020: 25.07 inches
  3. 2002: 24.31 inches
  4. 2007: 20.98 inches
  5. 2001: 20.35 inches
  6. 2019: 19.78 inches
  7. 2012: 19.7 inches
  8. 2021: 18.37 inches

 Here’s the top 10 years with the highest annual rainfall totals, using 2000 – 2020 stats:

  1. 2015: 62.61 inches
  2. 2018: 55.97 inches
  3. 2007: 50.005 inches
  4. 2004: 47.57 inches
  5. 2002: 44.42 inches
  6. 2020: 43.7 inches
  7. 2009: 40.89 inches
  8. 2001: 38.14 inches
  9. 2017: 36.62 inches
  10. 2000: 36.26 inches
