[ARCHIVED] Bedford Water Supply Update

Water Supply Graphic

Residents may have noticed their water being softer than usual, particularly on the southern side of Bedford. This is due to the City supplementing the water supply with an increased amount of well water from a well located on Bedford Road, south of Airport Freeway.  Therefore, residents closer to the well will have a higher ratio of well water in their water supply.

Soft water is most noticeable when someone uses soaps or detergents with it; it can leave a “soapy” feeling. Although using well water is a common practice for Bedford and many other cities, the increased levels of well water in the water supply are to supplement the amount of water the City is receiving from the Trinity River Authority. The TRA is still in conservation mode due to limited access to chlorine but anticipates being back to normal in April. There is still no need to panic, but rather, continue to limit water usage where you can. For example, running the dishwasher when its full, turning off the water while brushing your teeth, and taking shorter showers.

Bedford’s water supply continues to maintain its high quality. The Public Works Department conducts water tests daily, as does TRA. For questions, please email
