Bedford City Manager Jimmy Stathatos recently named Joey Lankford, Bedford Fire Department Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal, as the Interim Fire Chief. With more than 40 years with the Bedford Fire Department, Joey’s leadership will provide a seamless transition until the next Bedford Fire Chief has been chosen.

With 24 professional licenses and certifications, Joey started his career with Bedford FD as a firefighter/paramedic and served in various roles through the years including engineer and lieutenant/investigator.

“I am excited to be named as Interim Chief of the Bedford Fire Department; it is a privilege to work for such an outstanding City and organization.” Interim Chief Lankford said. “The men and women of the Bedford Fire Department are the ones who deserve the credit. They are on the streets day and night serving our citizens and guests. It is because of them that I still enjoy coming to work each day. It is my intention to move forward in a seamless fashion while awaiting the next Fire Chief.”

The City has started the search for the next Fire Chief, following former Fire Chief Sean Faye’s retirement on February 26.
