Harwood Road Water Improvements


Part of Phase Next, Generations Park, (formerly known as the Boys Ranch Park), includes replacing the waterlines to ensure adequate water supply to support the new infrastructure. Part of the Harwood Road Water Improvement project services Generations Park. On June 5, 2020, the Texas Water Development Board, (TWDB) approved the City of Bedford’s tenth project utilizing the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT) funding. This is the largest in-house SWIFT project to date and staff anticipates the project will begin in late 2020 to early 2021. First, the construction contract will go to City Council at the end of August and if approved, go back to TWDB for their review and approval, which typically takes approximately two to three months. Then, once all approvals are in place, the contracts will be fully executed with signatures, bonding, insurance, and required forms. Finally, construction will begin, which is anticipated to be at the end of 2020 or early 2021, however, this timeline may change depending on TWDB review time. The project includes the installation of approximately: -8,800 linear feet of 12” AWWA DR-18, -C900 PVC water pipe, -3,175 linear feet of 8” AWWA DR-18, -C900 PVC water pipe, -435 linear feet of 6” AWWA DR-18, -C900 PVC, -442 linear feet of 12” AWWA C121 ductile iron water pipe by open cutting, -162 linear feet of 12” AWWA C151 ductile iron water pipe by boring, including 24” steel casing and related appurtenances (fire hydrants, valves meter boxes, copper pipe, and service lines), -any other incidental work that may be needed. The construction contract time for the project is 420 calendar days. After the complete installation of the waterline, the City will follow up with pavement improvements on Harwood Road from the west city limits to Bedfordshire.
