Citizens Fire Academy

The Citizens Fire Academy (CFA) is a free, 10-week program where citizens that live or work in Bedford meet weekly to learn more about their fire department. CFA is offered once a year covers more than 20 informative topics, including fire and arson investigations, fire station tours, equipment, and recruiting, are instructed by firefighters with numerous hands-on activities. These activities allow the class participants opportunities to experience the firefighter’s job.

The 2022 Citizens Fire Academy was held March 23 through May 25.

Participation 

Class participants must be 18 years or older and live or work in Bedford to attend the CFA. A background check will be performed on all applicants. 

Participants must attend at least eight classes to graduate. Once participants complete the academy, they will be invited to join the Bedford Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association (BCFAAA). The Alumni Association was formed to provide support to the Fire Department and firefighters. Information about the Alumni Association can be found on their Facebook page.
