National Night Out
National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community-building campaign on the first Tuesday in October in Texas that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs
- Bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances
- Send a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
Block Party Registration
On Tuesday, October 5 from 5 to 9 p.m., we invite all Bedford communities to participate in the annual National Night Out. Neighborhoods around the City will turn on their outside lights and host block parties and cookouts to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
If you would like to have member from City Council, Bedford Police, or Bedford Fire stop by your block party, you will need to fill out the registration form.
Citizens or neighborhoods interested in hosting a National Night Out block party in Bedford must submit a registration form online. Registration forms are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, September 10. For questions or additional information, please email the Community Relations Coordinator.
This year, Bedford kids ages 4 through 13 are invited to participate in a National Night Out Poster Contest. Kids are encouraged to use their imaginations and create a masterpiece that falls into the theme "Partnering to Stop Crime." Encourage your artists to think about what they can do to partner with the Bedford Police Department in order to make their school, neighborhood, and the City a safer place to live. View the poster contest guidelines.
Prizes will be awarded to the first place winners in each age group: 4-6 years old, 7-9 years old, and 10-13 years old. Winning designs will be chosen by a NNO committee. The back of the poster must include:
- Child's name
- Telephone number of the parent or guardian
Posters must be submitted in-person to the Bedford Police Department, 2121 L. Don Dodson Dr., by 5 p.m. on Friday, September 17. Late entries will not be accepted. Winning submissions will be announced prior to NNO on Tuesday, October 5 and presented during an upcoming City Council meeting. For questions, please email the Community Relations Coordinator.
