The Mayor and City Council
appoint a City Manager to serve as the Chief Executive Officer and head of the administrative branch of the city government. The City Manager is responsible to the City Council for proper administration of all municipal functions within Bedford's corporate limits and environs.
The City Manager appoints directors for the city's various departments and is responsible for ensuring that the city's services are performed according to the City Council's policies and within the city's resources. The City Manager is also responsible for preparing, submitting, and later administrating an annual budget
and Capital Improvement Plan and advising the City Council about policy options concerning the organization and activities of city departments.
