Water Utility Billing

Winter Storm Water Utility Billing Adjustments

To help residents with the unexpected costs incurred during the February winter storm, the City of Bedford is doing the following:

  • Providing a 2,000-gallon water deduction off the usage amounts, which amounts to $8.88, which will be assessed on the April 1 or April 15 bills (depending upon which billing cycle you're on)
  • Removing the month with the highest usage when calculating sewer averaging
  • Pausing water disconnections for non-payment of water bills until April 30, 2021
  • Continuing to not assess late fees for water bill payments (this practice has been in place since February 2020 in response to the pandemic)
  • Providing additional relief to customers who experienced broken pipes/water leaks. Those individuals should call the Water Billing Department at 817-952-2112 to request payment arrangements

Please note: The City will not be issuing a credit for trash service during the winter storm week. The City’s solid waste franchise states that Republic Services cannot be held liable for non-collection due to force majeure (situation beyond their control). The winter storm emergency was an unprecedented weather event that would fall into this category. Due to the road conditions, Republic Services, in the interest of the safety of their employees as well as the public’s, determined to delay solid waste collection. They resumed their regular collection schedule this week and are collecting any extra trash generated during the previous week. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Responsibilities

This division is responsible for managing the utility billing for water, sewer, solid waste and recycling services. Bedford bills over 14,000 utility accounts monthly. The city contracts with Republic Services for the collection of solid waste and recycling, and provides consolidated billing for these services with the customer's water and sewer bills.

Senior Discount

All Bedford residents 65 years of age and older are eligible for a discount on their utility services. Check your bill. If you see a $4 charge for drainage, you are receiving the senior discount. If not, call 817-952-2112 for instructions on how to activate your senior discount.

Payment Terms

  • Payments will be considered past due if they have not been received by the Customer Service Office located in City Hall, Building C by 5:00 p.m. on the due date printed on the bill.
  • If payment has not been received by the due date printed on the original bill, one delinquent notice will be mailed.
  • If full payment has not been received in the Customer Service Office by 5 p.m. on the due date printed on the delinquent notice (or approved payment arrangements have not been made) utility service will be terminated on the next business day.

Interactive Voice Response System

To better serve residents, Customer Services is pleased to announce a new way to pay for water service. Bill pay can now be collected by phone with the new Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system. Using the IVR will provide customers with the advantage of additional payment options. An account holder can now pay with a checking account, an electronic check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express. Please dial 1-833-648-0159 and follow the prompts.
