Water Meter Shut Off Assistance
This is a friendly reminder that only a Bedford Public Works employee is authorized to shut off water at the City-owned water meter.
Per City ordinance Section 118-3; (1) A person may not knowingly tamper, connect to, or alter any component of the City’s water system including valves, meters, meter boxes, meter box lids, hydrants, lines, pump stations, ground storage tanks and elevated storage tanks. This includes direct or indirect efforts to initiate or restore water service without prior approval of the City (This includes licensed plumbers, builders, citizens, and sprinkler companies). This ordinance does not apply if your home has a separate water shut off valve. If you do not have one, a licensed plumber may install a home shut off valve for home repairs or other emergencies.
Please call the Public Works Department at (817) 952-2200 for water shut off assistance at the meter. Broken angle stops can result in fines and could potentially result in a large repair bill. Public Works crews are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For assistance after regular working hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), please contact Police Dispatch Non-Emergency line at (817) 952-2127.
